By default, ffmpeg prints out a lot of annoying text about the version and the compile options. It's pretty hard to find digging through the manpage, but there is a
-hide_banner option that will suppress this information.
You can easily make the less verbose version the default by adding an alias for each of the ffmpeg commands to your
alias ffprobe='ffprobe -hide_banner' alias ffmpeg='ffmpeg -hide_banner' alias ffplay='ffplay -hide_banner'
